20 YEARS OF THE WAXMAN GALA
LAUNCHED IN 1997 as an intimate wine tasting hosted by Elin and Michael Nierenberg, the Collaborating for a Cure Gala — known by the nickname The Waxman — has grown into one of New York City’s top benefits of the holiday season, attended regularly by 800 to 1,000 guests.
The Waxman has raised millions for cutting-edge cancer research funded by the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation and has treated guests to performances by classic rock stars. The Waxman has welcomed Hollywood stars, supermodels, and fashion designers and the annual live auction led by the incomparable Hugh Hildesley of Sotheby’s is always a highlight of the night.
On November 16, 2017, the Waxman Gala honored the memory of William Gorin, former CEO of MFA Financial, Inc., and commemorated 20 years of raising funds to support the SWCRF’s mission to eradicate cancer.
